Fertility After IUD Removal: When Ovulation Returns
Fertility returns as soon as an IUD is removed, copper or hormonal (NHS). After a hormonal IUD, periods may take a few months to settle, but you can conceive in the first cycle. Jananam Fertility Centre, Chennai suggests a check if cycles are still irregular after 3 to 4 months.

Which tracking method should I start with?
Start with cervical mucus, because it is free and shows the fertile window opening. Add ovulation kits in the days you see it. A temperature chart only confirms ovulation afterwards. If your cycles are very irregular, kits can mislead; how to track ovulation explains which methods to trust.
When to call us
- Your periods have not come back, or are still irregular, 3 to 4 months after removal.
- You are under 35 and have tried for 12 months, or 35 or over and tried for 6 months.
- You had irregular periods or PCOS before the IUD.
- There is known endometriosis, a past pelvic infection, two or more miscarriages, or a known sperm problem.
