WHAT CAUSES INFERTILITY

Both partners are part of the answer.

Roughly a third of cases trace to the woman, a third to the man, and the rest to both or to no cause that tests can find. This is why the first step is a joint evaluation.

  • Ovulation problems, including PCOS and irregular periods.
  • Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes.
  • Endometriosis and problems of the uterus.
  • Low egg reserve, which falls with age.
  • Low sperm count, poor movement or shape, or no sperm in the semen.
  • Unexplained infertility, when the usual tests are normal.

Three things you'll hear on day one.

We believe couples deserve the truth before the treatment: what is wrong, what will help, what it will cost, and when more treatment will not change the answer.

A written cost estimate

After your first consultation, in writing, before anything begins. No surprises halfway through.

Both partners, only the tests you need

Checked together first, so nothing is repeated later and nothing is missed.

IVF only when it's your best chance

Simpler options first, whenever your tests allow it. Many couples start with ovulation induction or IUI.

The tests that find the cause.

Only what your history needs, for both of you.

  1. 1

    Semen analysis

Quick, inexpensive and the first test either partner should have.

  2. 2

    Hormones and egg reserve

Blood tests including AMH show how the ovaries are working.

  3. 3

    Scans and tube check

An ultrasound looks at the uterus and ovaries. A tube test is added when the history points to it.

  4. 4

    Your plan

A personalised plan with clear next steps and a written cost.

Treatment follows the cause.

Simpler options come first whenever your tests allow it.

Ovulation induction

Tablets or injections help the ovaries release an egg, with scans to time it. It suits irregular or absent ovulation.

IUI

Prepared sperm is placed in the uterus around ovulation. It can suit mild male factors, unexplained infertility and some ovulation problems.

IVF and ICSI

Eggs and sperm are combined in the laboratory and the strongest embryo is transferred. ICSI injects one selected sperm into each egg, often advised for male factors.

Questions about infertility treatment in Chennai.

When should we see a fertility specialist?

After 12 months of trying without a pregnancy if the woman is under 35, and after 6 months if she is 35 or older. Go sooner if periods are irregular, you have had pelvic infections or surgery, or there is a known male factor.

Is infertility always a woman's problem?

No. The man contributes to about half of cases, which is why a semen analysis is one of the first tests.

Do we need IVF?

Not always. Many couples start with ovulation induction or IUI. The doctor recommends IVF when your tests show it gives you the best chance.

How much does infertility treatment cost?

It depends on the treatment your tests lead to. Ranges for each step are on the cost page, and you get a written estimate after your first consultation.

Which doctor will treat us?

Dr Vani Sundarapandian leads care at Neelankarai. Dr Mangalam Raman sees patients at Thiruporur.

What are your timings?
